About the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition
We promote the bicycle for everyday use because we see bicycling as a central solution to the environmental, health, and social problems facing our planet.
As the world becomes more aware of the climate problems caused by pollution from the transportation sector, the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition points to bicycling as a very clean and healthy transportation solution.
As the not-so-distant mountains gracing our horizon appear hazier every year, more and more people across both San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties are agreeing that we should focus more energy on reducing transportation emissions; however many people still hesitate before choosing their bikes for transportation in Silicon Valley.
We're working to change that.
Our programs encourage bicycle and motorist awareness and teach bicyclists safe traffic riding skills. We advocate for more bicycle friendly roads and connecting the trails across the region. Our volunteers re-build bicycles and offer them to children and individuals who cannot afford bicycles.
The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is expanding its influence across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties by leaps and bounds.

SVBC Meetings
General Meetings
We encourage all our members and non-members to attend our General Meetings, usually held on the second Thursday of every month. We typically pose a specific topic for discussion, however, these meetings are also open to other off topic ideas and issues. Check the Calendar for more details, as the schedule and location of these meetings vary.
Board Meetings
Our Board generally meets the third Thursday of each month except December. Members are welcome to attend. Meetings are at the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition office. The address and directions are on our contact page.
(A Brief) History
The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (originally Santa Clara Valley Bicycle Association) is a 501(c)3 organization that has provided a forum for bicyclists to organize, discuss common concerns, and take action since the early 1970s.
We organize at a grassroots level to create an environment in which bicycling can flourish. For almost 35 years, our members have served on bicycle advisory committees, gathered data, monitored trends and disseminated information on urban cycling issues to local governments, cyclists and the public. We've created a bimonthly newsletter, Spinning Crank, which informs readers about current issues affecting Silicon Valley cyclists.
