July 4th Parade
Submitted by maiki on June 16, 2008 - 11:09pm.Ride in the July 4th parade!
This year the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition will have the theme of a bicycle moving company to show the audience that bicycles really are utilitarian vehicles that can carry a load.
Come join us with bicycle trailers, decorated bicycles, unique cycles of any kind. Bring your couch, your dining room table, your kayak, your unicycle, or just yourself and your bicycle to help us celebrate this event and entertain the audience.
We will have some crepe paper, simple decorations, and some extra bicycle trailers to tow, but please feel free to creatively decorate your bicycles beforehand.
In addition volunteers are needed to help hand out t-shirts, greet people, and bring the float back to its home after the parade. If you would like to volunteer or just ride in the parade, email parade [at] bicycletunes [dot] org. Details on the meeting time and place will be provided.
If you would like to see a map of the parade route and schedule of events, visit http://parade.org.
We have a couple of extra bicycle trailers to tow. If you would like to pick one up and ride with our group to the parade start, please meet at 508 Jackson Ave, Redwood City at 9:30AM.
If you will just be meeting up with the group please meet at the intersection of Alden Street and Allerton at 10:00AM, when the parade begins. We will have to wait a while in the lineup and the parade route is about a mile, taking approximately 45 minutes to ride.
Look forward to seeing you on the Fourth!

Redwood Shores Roadways Re-striping Proposal
Submitted by maiki on March 15, 2008 - 4:06am.Redwood City is planning to re-pave and re-stripe three of the main streets in Redwood Shores. Currently, they are all two wide automobile lanes in each direction with no bike lanes. The wide lanes may be contributing to speeding by motorists. Redwood City is proposing to add bike lanes to one of the streets and narrow the lane widths on all three streets. They recognize the value of narrower lane widths in traffic calming. Some members of the community are proposing that Redwood City narrow the lanes further and add full-width bike lanes (out of the gutter) to all three streets.
