MINUTES OF PBPC MEETING OF 3 MAY 07 Attendees: Steve Vanderlip Didrik Hoag Caryl Gay Mike Harding Bob Page Gladwyn d'Souza Paul Wendt Alexis Grant Bob Cronin Al Meckler Pat Giorni John Langbein Karen Davis Mike Nelson Herb Masser Agenda Items: 1, 2) Attendees introduced themselves and the minutes were approved. 3) Reports: - Redwood City, John L.: The BAC is in limbo, as the staff person has died, with no replacement yet. Redwood Shores bike lanes are proposed to get colored slurry coating. - Belmont, Gladwyn d'S: There is a BAC in Belmont now; next meeting July 23rd. 4) N-S Route ride review: Pat G. described an alternate route to Grand Av. in SSF. Bob C. described another Airport-to-Gateway route, also in SSF. Bob P. presented a Menlo Park routing closer to Caltrain. Claremont Av. in San Mateo is a good route, except for poor paving and stop signs. 5) Bike to Work Day: Can we do publicity at Farmers' Markets? Alexis G. will be at Menlo Park. Mike N. distributed posters in two sizes. REI will provide bike repair at the RC Station. 6) Website discussion not taken up: Tony Panero is away. 7) RC 4th of July Parade: Transporting the Busycle was discussed. How heavy a load can we tow with a Class-C license? Perhaps we could move it in stages, since the 4th is on a Wednesday. We need to contact Martin Krieg for details. Can we find a donor for the towing costs? 8) Future meeting site: Paul W. suggests meeting a member's house for potluck dinner. This is a problem for new members, who we want to encourage. A public location is more better for them. It would also require rotating houses, and a single location is needed. Could a business sponsor a meeting location? How about another location in San Carlos? We will continue to meet at Ladda's for now and consider other meeting areas. 9) Caltrain study: The focus group is looking for new riders via an on-line survey. Suggestion: put card with survey website in BTWD bags. The future of the bike forum is in doubt; cyclists want more bikes on trains; Caltrain wants more lockers. Alexis: Caltrain letter & reply (sic). (clarify) 10) Hillsdale/101 bridge: Steve V., Pat G. are sending a letter to Bertha Sanchez of the Planning Commission. The Final Draft Report on the project is available online. Our proposed position: We are in favor of bike/ped access improvement, but not by every means. We need to update our position, as Alejandra is working on the website now. 12) Millbrae Earth Day: There were few attendees, due to the weather, but we lobbied Mayor Marc Hershman (C/CAG BPAC) on the need for bike racks at the Community Center. 13) The Assembly bills need a letter sent. Our website has details. 14) Safe Routes to Transit: We should look into tapping this source of funds, from bridge tolls, for projects like the N-S Route signage. 15) Additional topics: - County Bike Map: Mike is contacting Tom Madalena of C/CAG for added copies of the current version of the GIS map. Also need to contact Gilles Tourel of SM Co. Public Works, on status of the map work. - A list of County happenings and PBPC projects should be routed to members for comment and inclusion on the website. - The San Mateo BAC is meeting to consider bike access during the early Bay Meadows shutdown and possible accelerated BMLC construction. - Skyridge Dr on Skyline: How do we get through to Caltrans on the hazards of the posts in the bike lane/shoulder. A letter to Julian Carroll to start, then the Assemblyman, Co. Supervisor, etc. The key is to find the right contact.
