Ê Ê Ê Ê ÊMINUTES OF PBPC MEETING ÊOF 6 JULY 06 Attendees: Bob Cronin Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê ÊGladwyn D'Souza Ê Ê Ê Ê Mike Harding Steve Vanderlip Ê Ê Ê Ê Tony Panero Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Didrik Hoag Margaret Pye Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê ÊJerri-Anne Meyer Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê ÊPat Giorni Al Meckler Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê Ê ÊMilo Fenzi, Woodside BAC Deborah Gordon. Woodside Mayor Pre-meeting discussion: ÊMilo Fenzi and Mayor Gordon discussed the cyclist/motorist/equestrian conflict in the Woodside area. ÊThey find the situation dangerous due to the level of anger seen in a few motorists and cyclists. A lack of understanding on all sides makes it worse. Agenda Items: - Introductions and Minutes: Ê The minutes of the June meeting were approved. - Reports: ÊSchools- ÊJerri-Anne requested help with the educational ride 17 Ê ÊSept at Oak Knoll Elementary, Menlo Park, as part of a Bike Ê ÊSafety week, 11-15 Sept. ÊThis is the school Michelle Mazzei Ê Êtaught at. ÊHillsdale/101 Bike Bridge- ÊSteve announced a workshop to be held for public information on the proposed bike overcrossing, 13 July, at the San Mateo City Hall. ÊC/CAG BPAC meeting- ÊMike described the presentation on the El Camino "Grand Boulevard" initiative. ÊMayor Gordon said Caltrans has an agreement with C/CAG on right-of-way issues and cities are signing on. How this affects bike access to El Camino is unknown, but widening of the street is very difficult, so results are likely to be cosmetic. ÊThe GIS-based bike map has bike route input largely done, and the County is considering ways to make a printed version. ÊDiscussion covered the relative merits of digital and paper publishing. ÊTDA Art.3 is a likely funding source for printed maps. ÊSan Carlos BAC- ÊMargaret described a proposed workshop for Safe Routes to School. ÊThey are looking for a site, a date and likely participants. ÊOddly, the city staff and police department are unenthusiastic, as are the schools. ÊWoodside road rage- ÊMilo Fenzi and Mayor Gordon are looking for suggestions on how to improve matters. ÊMilo summarized the conflict, noting that a half-dozen bike-haters are leading public opinion, which would otherwise be milder. ÊHe is organizing an informal meeting to start a dialog, and asks PBPC's help. ÊSuggestions included cameras to document incidents, better publicity about the issue and personal encouragement of good stop sign behavior. ÊCuriously, the Woodside/Canada intersection is usually polite, due to the congestion. Individual efforts to spread the word for better behavior may be the best we can do, plus finding ways to open the dialog. Ê4th of July wrap-up: ÊSteve said pictures are up on the website now. ÊN-S Route- ÊDidrik is changing the focus of the campaign, with the whole route as a long-term goal and bottlenecks getting the short-term efforts. ÊWe will meet early in August at 6:30, for a pre-meeting to plan our approach. ÊA suggestion was made to put County-wide bike route signage on the County Bikeway Plan. ÊThis requires finding the study that describes the signage scheme that was endorsed by the C/CAG BPAC. ÊThis is comparable to the SFBC signage. Bob mentioned that information on the results of the Valencia St. project are forthcoming from Leah Shahum of SFBC. ÊWillow/101 overcrossing upgrade- ÊIt was decided to have an off-line meeting to discuss the details of the various designs for our recommendations. ÊC/CAG and liability- ÊGladwyn will draft a letter for Board discussion.
