MINUTES OF PBPC MEETING OF 6 APRIL 06 Attendees: Bob Cronin Mike Harding Gladwyn D'Souza Margaret Pye Bob Page Pat Giorni Steve Vanderlip JerriAnn Meyer Dianne Brien & Yvonne Tony Panero Agenda Items 1. Attendees introduced themselves. 2. Last meeting's minutes were approved. Reports: 3. Woodside parks and trails, Bob Page: County Parks and Rec approved a 12 month plan. 4. Woodside Rd./I-280, Bob Page: With reminders from John Langbein, Caltrans has moved the green freeway sign closer and added one further away from the original location. Pictures were e-mailed to Caltrans illustrating the need for tree trimming for better sightlines. 5. Bay Meadows, Steve Vanderlip and Pat Giorni: Pending a review of signatures, the BMII referendum may be allowed. The Bay Meadows Land Corp. is threatening to sue the city of San Mateo for non-support. Among side effects of BMII is the threatened loss of Little League playing fields. It was suggested that we write a letter to C/CAG and visit to comment. Margaret Pye: The local Green Party has come out against BMII. They will trace and publish the money trail involved in the development. 6. Bike to Work Day May 18th, Jerri-Ann Meyer: SVBC will have an evening party at the Tied House in San Jose. Steve: Velo Girls is having a party on the Saturday before. We will do brochures and applications for Energizer station bags. We need a letter of introduction from the Alliance for soliciting donations of food and coffee from merchants. 7. Lawyer speaker meeting, Steve: We will try to get the 100 seat conference room at the Redwood City library. Billy James will reserve it. If held in late May or early June, we can advertise it at BTWD. We will check out Dawn Hassell's availability. This is a good membership recruiting opportunity. 8. Assembly Bill 2444, Gladwyn D'Souza: This would add a $10 fee to vehicle registrations in the 9 Bay Area counties to be used for traffic mitigation. $5 would go to BAAQM, Bay Area Air Quality, $5 to CMAQ, Congestion Management. Gladwyn would like to write a letter with suggestions. A motion to send a letter from PBPC passed. 9. Redwood City 4th of July Parade, Dianne Brien: The brainstorming meeting at the park produced no solid float idea, so we will build a simple float and encourage lots of riders from SVBC and bike clubs. We need to find high-wheel riders; Carolyn Helmke at Stanford is a possible source. Ideas were solicited from all: Please send your ideas to Dianne. Pictures of the past and present; Antique bikes (2) Non-motorized transport, old and new Gas pumps and bikes Bikes, then and now / High wheel and recumbent Can we do bike parking? Where would we locate? 10. Past PBPC accomplishments for publicity are needed. Send items to Steve. 12. Discussion of suggestion for sponsored PortaPotty (tm) in Woodside/Portola Valley: Question: Is the real problem urination or bike packs? The Noon Ride, the most common offender, is a pickup event: there is no sponsor to contact. Chief offences are stop sign running and cars surrounded by bikes. Enforcement is stymied by the number of cyclists; there are too many to stop. We should ask other areas about their experiences; EastBayBC and Southern California groups. Try to invite Ramon Alarcon, the originator of the suggestion, to visit us.
