MINUTES OF PBPC MEETING OF 2 FEB 06 Attendees: Bob Cronin Mike Harding Paul Wendt Margaret Pye Steve Vanderlip Bob Page John Langbein Karen Davis Didrik Hoag, San Carlos Tony Panero Dianne Brien & Yvonne Brien Miller Agenda Items 1. Attendees introduced themselves. 2. Last meeting's minutes were accepted 3. Website discussion, Tony Panero, Webmaster: We will be using penbiped.net. If we can register penbiped.org, we will, but the Australian registry that Mike Nelson contacted is not responding. 4. Treasurers report delayed. - Added announcement: John Langbein described the Bay in a Day double century, in late July, that PBPC and Western Wheelers helped support in 2005. The same rest stop location will be used, and several sag wagons will be needed. 5. Woodside Rd at I-280 meeting with Caltrans: Bob Page, John L., Bob Cronin, Dwight Caldwell and Julian Carroll met at the site and discussed the PBPC 9-item list of desired changes. Background note: Caltrans thought John Ciccarelli was the spokesman and interpreted his plan without counsultation. List items accepted: Striping at the PG&E driveway will be narrowed and a strip added across. The Botts dots separation between bike and car lane will be narrowed to 2' and tapered to nothing. Shrubbery can be cut back for visibility. Bob P.: Items still under discussion, with an e-mail response promised: Two I-280 signs, further apart, instead of one. Add bike warning and/or crossing signs. John L.: The drawings are finished, but negotiations remain. The Caltrans "sign czarina", not one to take others' suggestions, would replace the lane arrow with "right lane". The crosswalk at the on-ramp light is a hazard to pedestrians now. We need to see the results on-site before celebrating, but a precedent has been set (Secretary's note). Item 10. advanced: Redwood City 4th of July Parade, Dianne Brien: She will handle the entry as before. The theme is "150 Years in San Mateo County". Ideas: Should we do bike parking? We need a photographer for PBPC to get parade pictures. A music player for the float is needed. Can we locate a high-wheel bike and get someone to ride it? A brainstorming session some Sunday is needed. 4. Treasurer's report, Margaret Pye: An IRS form has been filed for our organization. Should we file for 501c3 status? SVBC has an exemption. We need the member data base to account for dues share. Paul Wendt is to do. 6. N-S Route campaign, Didrik Hoag: He reported on the kickoff meeting: following the Thunderhead Alliance outline, we determined that safety is the theme, to be gained by visibility of the route to motorists and cyclists. Connecting San Carlos to Redwood City is one area to focus on. Billy James needs to be R.C. point man. Belmont needs to be brought in. Bob C. suggested sharrows as well as signs for visibility. The survey ride is Feb. 4th, starting at Harbor and Old County. 8. Bike To Work Day, Steve V.: We need to get our Energizer Station locations to the Alliance: Redwood City (2), Belmont, and San Mateo. Menlo Park, San Carlos, and Woodside have their own. Suggestions are requested; one is to distribute yellow Caltrain cards. 7. Bay Meadows: We must talk to the Sierra Club to see if we can't get a joint position. The website statement needs updating. Would it help to contact LAB? A BTWD flyer should be available at Caltrain stations, especially San Mateo. A formal letter to Bay Meadows Land Co. with our position is needed. There is a Green Party meeting in So. SF on Bay Meadows that we could attend. 9. Agenda for 2006 was handed out by Steve. We need a representative for SVBC meetings. Bob C. can attend some. Announcements: - Bob C., translating the Bike Safety booklet: Dan Zerflug of the Alliance has found a translator for a reasonable fee. We need to think about how to distribute it. - John L., mountain bikers are requesting use of trails in Huddart and Wunderlich parks. County ordinance requires bikes to use roads only in parks. A meeting in Woodside brought out anti-bike horse people and few bikers. And expensive new route outside the park was offered. It is in the hands of Park and Rec now.
