MINUTES OF PBPC MEETING OF 5 JAN 06 Attendees: Bob Cronin Mike Harding Gladwyn D'Souza Paul Wendt Steve Vanderlip Bob Page Jerri Anne Meyer, SVBC Pat Giorni Didrik Hoag, San Carlos Tony Panero, San Carlos Dianne Brien Dean Miller & Yvonne Brien Miller Agenda Items 1. Attendees introduced themselves. 2. Last meetings minutes were postponed and later accepted unread. 3. Woodside Rd / I-280 safety, Jerri Anne and Bob Page: A handout of incident history since 2001 was distributed. The wide shoulder serving as a bike lane has been a hazard near the interchange. The addition of a gore with Botts dots between the bike lane and traffic is a new problem, due to reduced visibility of bikes to cars. Experienced cyclists prefer to be next to the traffic lane. Steve presented a list of proposed changes to be requested of Caltrans. Since Caltrans did not ask for input from cyclists, a rapid response system to them from PBPC was suggested. Non-standard signs were discouraged as likely to be rejected, while standard signs should be requested, even if not quite right. There was extended discussion of which requests to include on a list, and priorities were established. A long-term proposal was submitted to add an on-ramp signal so that bikes could cross the ramp there. This might be used as a throwaway request in negotiations. 4. Caltrain wants to do a demonstration bike locker project, requiring a $260K grant. A letter endorsing that project was signed by the Board. 5. San Carlos portion of the N-S bike route campaign, Didrik Hoag: He will chair a separate meeting to discuss the project and learn about dealing with cities. The Redwood City General Plan is a starting point. 8. (moved ahead) Redwood City 4th of July Parade entrance: The Board voted to enter a float again this year. Dianne volunteered to handle our entry with the City. We will invite SVBC to join us. 6. Willow Rd / 101 interchange upgrade: It is too early for comment, says Caltrans. We will wait for and initial EIR-type document. 7. Bay Meadows is moving ahead with the vote petition failing. Should we meet with the Sierra Club to discuss a joint position? 9. The website is up at penbiped.net instead of .org. Tony Panero volunteers to back up Steve on maintaining the site. We still need a full webmaster. 10. Action Plan: Steve will resend the latest version.
